Safe Sunscreen Guide summer 2011-12

Using sunscreen is an important preventative measure to help reduce the risk of developing skin cancer. So no-one wants to use sunscreens that may make sun damage worse.
Our new season summer 2011-2012 Safe Sunscreen Guide gives the Australian public information to make an informed choice and to avoid high risk nano-sunscreens
The guide lists a range of non-nano, SPF 30+ sunscreens. It also includes secondary sunscreens (moisturisers, anti-ageing creams and mineral foundations).
Given the concerns around the health risks of nanoparticles, and the potential problems associated with chemical UV-absorbers, Friends of the Earth Australia recommends using an SPF 30+, broad spectrum, non-nano, zinc based sunscreen
Because nanotechnology is already being used without labelling in Australian sunscreens, we have produced this safe sunscreen guide to help make this choice easy for you and hope you find it useful.
We also encourage you to email Health Minister Tanya Plibersek and cc Parliamentary Secretary Catherine King and let them know that you support full safety testing and labelling of nano-ingredients in sunscreen.
