German scientists have found that titanium dioxide nanoparticles cause cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on human skin cells via a mechanism of oxidative stress, in a study published in Toxicology.
The researchers state that the next steps will be to examine the effects of modifications of the nanoparticles, for example via agglomeration, changes in size distribution and exposure time, on the mode of action.
