Youngest Nanotechnology Teacher in Iran Introduced

TEHRAN (FNA)- Amir Hossein Hajji Aqajani Me'mar, one of the youngest winners of Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students in Iran, acquired the capability certificate for teaching nanotechnology.

Hajji Aqajani Me'mar, a freshman in electronics engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology, who had won the gold and silver medals in the two previous Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students, acquired the capability certificate from Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council to teach nanotechnology.

In an interview with Nano Club, Aqajani mentioned that being a member of Nano Club, studying the articles in the Club's website, and participating in the two rounds of Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students improved his knowledge on nanotechnology.
The full text of the interview of Nano Club with Mr. Aqajani follows:

Q. Thank you for the opportunity. Would you please introduce yourself?

A. Hello to all members of the Club. I wish happiness and health for all of them. I am Amir Hosein Hajji Aqajani Me'mar, and I was born in Tehran in August 1983. I am currently studying at the second semester in electronics engineering in Iran University of Science and Technology.

Q. How and where did you start studying nanotechnology?

A. My knowledge about nanoscience and nanotechnology was very general before the first Olympiads in 2010. But when I registered for the Olympiads, everything was different, and I seriously started studying in this field. I started with the articles in Nano Club's website in order to get ready for the Olympiads in 2010. I also studied the books recommended by the website as the sources of the examination. In order to participate in the Olympiads in 2011, I studied the notes of the practical stage of the previous year's Olympiads. The articles added to the website helped me a lot too. I must point out that I did not take part in any course except the summer courses of the Olympiads that were held for the shortlisted of the first stage of the Olympiads. In fact, most of my studies have been self-studying.

Q. What kind of activities and researches have you so far carried out in the field of nanotechnology?

A. I have participated in two rounds of Nanotechnology Olympiads. I have carried out studies on polymeric nanocomposites since the middle of June 2011. This work included some practical experience. It was an individual study, which was carried out by using the consultations of the expert professors in this field. I carried out this study in order to increase thermal resistance of polymeric carbon fibre composite. Traces of this study can be observed in the previous articles. In fact, I used silicium nanoparticles to improve thermal properties of the expendable nanocomposite. I carried out some of the tests and experiments on the samples with various mass percentages in Tarbiat Modarres University. The composites were synthesized through coiling method. In the end, the final samples were prepared in form of cylindrical objects with a thickness of 20 millimetres.

Q. What achievements have you obtained in the field of nanotechnology?

A. In my opinion, the best achievement is that I learned very enjoyable things, and it all started when I joined the Nano Club's society and when I participated in the summer courses for the Olympiads. I won the gold and silver medals in Olympiads 2010 and 2011 respectively. I also received nanotechnology teaching certification from Promotion Workgroup of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council.

Q. What is your suggestion to the students who are interested in nanotechnology?

A. Try it once (I mean, try nanotechnology depending on your current level). You will like it. I mean, you will probably like it. Scientific articles of Nano Club are very helpful in the beginning. Their content is perfect too.

Q. As a person who has acquired nanotechnology teaching certificate from Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council, what is your definition of nanotechnology?

A. I'd better refer this question to the esteemed Prof Richard Feynman. "There is plenty of space down there." The explanation is that the technology (capability) to create changes in the intra-molecular space is called nanotechnology. This capability enables us to use some of the rules in nature, which cannot be seen at larger scales.

Q. In your opinion, what is the feedback of nanotechnology in Iran?

A. I am very glad that our country started its activities in this regard very quickly. The authorities have sensed this scientific potential very well. Although it may seem that this technology does not currently have any economic efficiency in the country's industries, it will grow very well after passing the period of activation energy.
