EU institute releases second nanoparticle reference material

The Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), part of the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), has released a second certified nanoparticle reference material.
The material is ideally suited to aid the development of methods for the implementation of the recently released Commission definition of nanomaterials (CW 18 October 2011), according to the institute.
The new material, which consists of silica particles in an aqueous environment and is widely used in products such as polish, whiteners and dispersants, is also aimed at aiding the monitoring of nanoparticle production quality and supporting health and environment safety assessment.
